Distributors who continue to sell illegal metal bull bars face imprisonment
The new Endura Frontal Protection System (FPS) has been tested and proven to make fleet vehicles up to 50 times safer for vulnerable road users such as children. In the event of a front end collision, the FPS significantly reduces the risk of injury or death for all pedestrians and cyclists.
Testing on a wide range of vehicles (including those made as far back as 1991) has shown impressive results for a reduced risk of injury to vulnerable road users when an Endura FPS is fitted. Testing on a typical 2005 LCV (Light Commercial Vehicle), in line with recent EU legislation for Frontal Protection Systems has demonstrated that the latest Endura FPS model reduces the risk of head injury from over 97 per cent in the worst case down to less than 1 per cent. Risk of injury to the pelvic and abdomen, upper leg and lower leg is also substantially reduced.
Save lives
As changing online shopping habits lead to more vehicles in residential areas, the risk to pedestrians and children in particular is increasing. According to UK Road Safety, statistics highlight some 65 per cent of road traffic accidents involve a vehicle driven on company business.
AA Business Services suggest that van drivers represent one sixth of the UK’s driving population, yet statistically they account for 25 per cent of road fatalities each year. The result is many children being seriously injured or killed by large vehicles in built-up areas.
Improve corporate social responsibility
Historically, fleet companies have focussed on minimising the costs of running a fleet of company vehicles. Crashes cause a number of direct and hidden costs, such as vehicle repair, replacement and lost productivity. However, fleet owners will now be able to meet corporate social responsibility goals by doing everything they can to make their vehicles safer for vulnerable road users and start saving lives, while at the same time gaining a spin off benefit of reducing vehicle damage and related costs, reducing insurance claims and time off the road.
The true cost of an accident involving a company vehicle could be in the region of ten times the cost of the actual repairs (including lost working time and contracts). In real terms, an accident with repair charges of £1,000 could actually cost a business around £10,000 per accident, according to industry sources.
On May 25th 2007, EU legislation will effectively ban old style metal bull bars while endorsing these safer Frontal Protection Systems. Fleet drivers who chose to fit an Endura FPS will not only make their old or new vehicle safer but will also contribute to saving countless lives and serious injuries across Europe.
