Vans, SUVs and 4x4s can be made much safer as well as reducing insurance claims

Concept Mouldings has launched its new Endura Frontal Protection System (FPS) for vans, 4x4s and SUVs which will save lives, reduce serious injuries to vulnerable road users and could reduce insurance premiums.

Testing carried out at MIRA has demonstrated that pedestrian safety is drastically improved with the Endura FPS added. Most significantly, a 50 fold improvement was achieved in the head impact test. Reductions in risk of injury were shown in relation to the abdomen and upper leg. The comparative testing results are available at http://www.frontalprotectionsystems.eu/video/testing_safety.php.

The fitting of an FPS of this type, while making the vehicles safer for vulnerable road users, also offers a range of additional benefits including a reduction of damage in impacts on the fronts of vehicles.

Fleet owners will be able to meet corporate social responsibility goals by doing everything they can to make their vehicles safer for vulnerable road users, while at the same time gaining a spin off benefit of reducing vehicle damage and insurance claims according to The Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre (Thatcham).

“Thatcham is funded by UK insurers to help contain and reduce the cost of motor insurance claims. Traditionally this has been mainly focused on material damage, the actual cost of repairing the vehicle after an accident. Increasingly though Thatcham's research has turned to include vehicle security - preventing theft of and theft from and now more recently reducing the likelihood of personal injuries, all for the benefit of the motorist.

“Therefore, any improvement to vehicle design whether at production or in the aftermarket would be of interest to insurers if it helped to reduce the risk of injury to their customers and contained damage to the vehicles they insure." said Lesley Upham, Director of Communications, Thatcham.
