Over recent years, the UK Government has had ambitious vision for UK businesses to consider the economic, social and environmental impacts of its activities. There has been added pressure on how companies should not only make decisions based only on financial factors such as profits but also based on the immediate and long term social and environmental consequences of its activities.

“Today, corporate social responsibility goes far beyond the old philanthropy of the past – donating money to good causes at the end of the financial year – and is instead an all year round responsibility that companies accept for the environment around them, for the best working practices, for their engagement in their local communities and for their recognition that brand names depend not only on quality, price and uniqueness but on how, cumulatively, they interact with companies’ workforce, community and environment…” said Gordon Brown, Chancellor of the Exchequer.

As online shopping habits lead to more vehicles in residential areas, the risk to pedestrians and children in particular is increasing as is pressure on fleet companies who’s vehicles are having a huge effect both socially and environmentally.

According to UK Road Safety, statistics highlight:

  • Some 65 per cent of road traffic accidents involve a vehicle driven on company business.

AA Business Services suggest:

  • Van drivers represent one sixth of the UK’s driving population, yet statistically they account for 25 per cent of road fatalities each year.

The result is many children being seriously injured or killed by large vehicles in built-up areas.

The new Endura Frontal Protection System (FPS) has been tested and proven to make 4x4s, SUVs and fleet vehicles up to 50 times safer for vulnerable road users such as children. In the event of a front end collision, the Endura FPS significantly reduces the risk of injury or death for all pedestrians and cyclists.

As you can see http://www.endura-fps.com/comparative_testing/comparative_testing.html, benchmark testing on three vehicles that sell well across the UK and Europe, representing a significant portion of the vehicle parc has shown impressive results for a reduced risk of injury to vulnerable road users when an Endura FPS is fitted. Testing on a typical 2005 LCV (Light Commercial Vehicle), in line with the new EU legislation for pedestrian protection has demonstrated the Endura FPS reduces the risk of head injury from over 98 per cent in the worst case down to less than 1 per cent. Risk of injury to the pelvic and abdomen, upper leg and lower leg is also substantially reduced.

Historically, companies have focussed on minimising the costs of running a fleet of company vehicles. Crashes cause a number of direct and hidden costs, such as vehicle repair, replacement and lost productivity.  However, companies will now be able to:

  • Meet corporate social responsibility goals by doing everything they can to make its vehicles safer for vulnerable road users and start saving lives

  • Gain a spin off benefit of reducing vehicle damage and related costs

  • Reduce insurance claims and time off the road

Companies who chose to fit an Endura FPS to its vehicles will not only make its old or new vehicle safer but will also contribute to saving countless lives and serious injuries across Europe.
