Thatcham and RAC Foundation applaud Concept Mouldings

Automotive manufacturers and specialists Concept Mouldings have been applauded for its revolutionary Endura Frontal Protection System (www.endura-fps.co.uk) which can make many vehicles safer in the unfortunate event of front-end collisions with pedestrians and cyclists.

“As a member of EuroNCAP, Thatcham is a very strong supporter of pedestrian safety initiatives. This innovative development provides a significant improvement in the pedestrian performance of Frontal Protection Systems and Thatcham applauds Concept Mouldings for their work in improving pedestrian safety in this area” said Andrew Miller, Director of Research, Thatcham.

“Thatcham also encourages SUV/Pickup manufacturers and other aftermarket suppliers of these types of products to consider pedestrian safety performance in the future product development programmes”

Testing of the revolutionary new Endura Frontal Protection System (FPS) has been carried out at MIRA, one of Europe’s leading vehicle design, development and certification centres. The tests, which are based on the latest EU directive, showed that the Frontal Protection System reduced the risk of head injuries from over 98 per cent down to less than 2 per cent, and also substantially reduced the risk of injuries to the upper leg, abdomen and pelvis from 97 per cent down to 11 per cent when fitted to large and medium SUVs and also light commercial vans. Concept Mouldings has tested and improved in all three disciplines - Head, Abdominal and Leg, and in every discipline the risk of injury has been significantly reduced.

Pictured here is an effective diagram displaying the types of injury incurred by a pedestrian as an overall percentage when involved in a front-end collision with a vehicle. As you can see a massive 80 per cent of serious and fatal injuries are head related, 19 per cent abdominal and less than 1 per cent is leg.

Details of the results and information on this development in pedestrian safety are available at www.frontalprotectionsystems.eu .

The Endura FPS, which was launched at the British International Motor Show, has also been applauded from Kevin Delaney, Head of Traffic and Road Safety Policy from the RAC foundation.

“The results of the MIRA tests make impressive reading, especially in a manufacturing sector where the design, shape, height and ridged frontal construction of vehicles such as LGVs and SUVs does not readily lend itself to pedestrian protection following a collision”

“Safety is an important factor for those who choose SUVs as family transport and many will be concerned that post – crash levels of protection for occupants are not matched by those for pedestrians. The MIRA test results clearly show that it is possible to produce and fit protection systems which significantly reduce the level of injury likely to be sustained by pedestrians and the RAC foundation for Motoring welcomes this development”
